Brit Champs 2014

October 18th – 19th saw the Senior British Rowing Championships take place at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. As one of the biggest events of the British Rowing season, we were privileged to have 5 University of Surrey Boat Club members racing. Despite difficult weather conditions, Saturday’s racing saw fantastic results for the Surrey crew members.

USBC member Harry Glenister doubling with Molesey Boat Club’s Luke Moon and Senior and Intermediate Men’s Captain Alastair Douglass doubling with Molesey Boat Club’s Callum Gathercole easily secured places in Final B of the Double Sculling category. They then proceeded to come 1st and 2nd respectively in the final. In addition Alastair and Callum were the second fastest Under 23 Lightweights and Harry and Luke were the second fastest Under 23 Double’s.

Meanwhile, USBC’s Rob Sherry and Rupert Graham came 2nd in the F Final of the Coxless Four’s category as part of a MBC crew, followed by Rory Brampton in 3rd, also in a MBC crew.

Sunday’s weather saw the cancellation of the afternoons racing, as well as the dismissal of the morning’s timetrials, which brought an end to the proceedings. The USBC crew was due to be competing in the Coxed Eights and Quad categories.
